FALCON POINT ON BLUEBERRY HILL

Whistler - British Columbia

Within one of the most prestigious residential areas in Whistler, the Blueberry project combines traditional timber framing with state-of-the-art timber heavy timber technology in the design of the roof trusses, roof braces and main entrance tower structure. The glued-laminated timber trusses with curved bottom chords are designed to resist the large Whistler snow loads. Proprietary Bertsche “BVD” connectors, using a combination of non-shrink grout and tight-fit pins provide clean, high-strength connections for the trusses. Special attention to steel detailing and fabrication resulted in a visually striking design that is well-balanced with the scale of the project.

The superstructure is supported by three levels of reinforced concrete construction on this steep sloping bedrock site. A heated 1200 square foot concrete terrace wraps around the rear side of the residence and opens up into a heated outdoor whirlpool, which is partially cantilevered over the steep bluff.
