MCDONALD LLOYD RESIDENCE

Vancouver - British Columbia

This single family home was originally built in the 1920’s and is located on a corner property in a historical Vancouver neighbourhood.

The project included a 750 SF second storey addition to the back of the existing building. The new structure features a new glass and steel mezzanine floor, large glazed areas. An existing strip skylight was re-used on the north side, creating a discontinuity in the upper and lower shear wall. The transfer of seismic loads through the skylight was creatively handled with the use of an elegant, filigree flat bar Vierendeel truss.
