VANCOUVER GARDENS

Beijing - China

Vancouver Gardens is a community of North American style homes in the greater Beijing area. The marketing centre was designed as a flower blossom made from Douglas fir. Engineering, modelling and fabrication were carried out in B.C. The entire assembly was shipped to China and then erected by local labourers. The workers used a single crane and a scaffold system to erect the structure - no manlifts were used. The structure is designed to resist the equivalent of a magnitude 4 earthquake by using a central, single-storey steel tube filled with concrete and steel rod cross-bracing at the perimeter.
