BC Ferries – Departure Bay Terminal

Nanaimo, British Columbia

The BC Ferries Departure Bay Terminal project includes three new one-storey building structures connected together with new enclosed walkways. The architectural intent is to create light, crisp roof planes with generous overhangs, suspended over light open vertical elements. Structural steel was chosen for the roof structures to help minimize roof depths and enhance the dramatic elegance of the large cantilevered razor edge roof planes. The roof structure is clad with high quality BC plywood sheathing, creating smooth uninterrupted planes, and adding warmth to the modern form.
