Glen Elementary School

Coquitlam - British Columbia

The new Glen Elementary School was built as replacement to an old facility which needed to remain operational during the replacement construction period, despite considerable site restrictions. The structure on raft slab foundations consists of two-storey reinforced block masonry with pre-stresses hollow core floor slab panel. The economical structural steel roof structure is exposed throughout, carefully detailed and featured in key public areas such as the generous exterior covered areas.
The project is built LEED silver equivalent and features efficient radiant slab heating and natural ventilation. The building was tendered in April 2009 and completed in December 2010, 30% below budget.

Client: Coquitlam School board
Architect: Marceau Evans Johnson Architects
Budget: $ 11 million
